OVERVIEW: Mahali Mzuri means 'beautiful place' in Swahili, and we hope you agree! Mahali Mzuri is Sir Richard Branson’s 12-tented luxury safari camp located in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy in the wider Maasai Mara ecosystem in Kenya. Due to Mahali Mzuri's excellent location on the Kenyan plains, you’ll have a front row seat, not just to the annual great migration, but also to the abundant game you can see all year round.
Besides enjoying the abundant wildlife on twice-daily game drive experiences, there is a 12 metre outdoor infinity pool, spa and special community tours to meet members of the Maasai tribe.
ACCOMODATION: We have 12 unique tented suites sleeping a maximum of 24 guests at any time. The tents are perched on a ridge looking over the valley with a distinctive design adapted to the local climate and terrain. There are six tents on either side of the Main Tent, each accessible by a shared walkway, the furthest of which is approximately a five-minute walk from the Main Tent. Ten of the 12 tents are designed to sleep two guests, and all can be split into twin beds. The remaining two tents are configured so that the sitting area is enclosed with fold-out sofa beds accommodating up to two additional guests and perfect for a family of four. Mahali Mzuri is available for individual ‘hotel style’ bookings or for exclusive use bookings year-round. Rates include all food and drinks as well as game drives in the private reserve.
WHAT TO DO: We have open 4x4 Land Cruiser vehicles, seating a maximum of six guests and there are early morning and late afternoon game drives. Night game drives will also be available and can be arranged by guests whilst at Mahali Mzuri. For those hoping to set off on a full day drive, our friendly team can organise a picnic lunch so guests can make the most of the bush. When it’s time to relax, guests can enjoy time swimming in the infinity pool or sampling a spa treatment.
Between July and September guests staying at Mahali Mzuri will have a front row seat to The Great Migration which sees up to one million wildebeest plus hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelles and other game undertake a journey of roughly 1,600km through Tanzania and Kenya.
LOCATION & ACCESS: Mahali Mzuri is about 240km west of Nairobi and the best way to arrive is by plane to Nairobi-Wilson Airport. We can arrange transfers between the international and domestic airports for arrivals from outside Kenya. Several domestic airlines are based at Nairobi-Wilson Airport and most provide scheduled flights to the region which take an hour or less. There are two airstrips close to Mahali Mzuri that we would recommend guests to use. The first is the Olare Orok airstrip which is the smaller of the two airstrips and is approximately 25 minutes away from Mahali Mzuri. The second is the Mara North airstrip where the journey by vehicle to the camp is roughly one hour's drive. Special charter flights can also be arranged on request if the scheduled times don't suit you, and if you’re feeling adventurous, we can also arrange a private helicopter transfer which can land right at our front door.
CHILDREN: Children aged 2 years and above are welcomed to stay at Mahali Mzuri. Should children between 2- 6 wish to participate in the daily game drives, they will need to hire a private closed vehicle, all children must be accompanied by their parents on game drives. The team love to organise tailored activities to further educate younger guests on their African surroundings and the local wildlife, from Maasai jumping competitions to elephant dung cricket!
