OVERVIEW: Located in the Sabi Sand Reserve in South Africa, Ulusaba is known for the quality of its safari experience and has some of the most experienced Rangers and Trackers in the country. During twice daily game drives guests will have the opportunity to spot lions, leopards, elephants and many more species. Guests can stay in one of two lodges or split the time between both for the ultimate safari experience.
ACCOMODATION: Ulusaba has 20 rooms and suites spread over two lodges: Rock Lodge and Safari Lodge. Ulusaba operates “hotel style” where guests book individual rooms, although one or both lodges can also be hired exclusively for larger groups or special celebrations. Ulusaba offers exceptional luxury with all meals and drinks included in the rates.
Rock Lodge is perched on the top of a koppie with stunning views across the landscape. There are 8 rooms at Rock Lodge, including the Master Suite, Makwela Suites, Rock Cliff rooms and the two-bedroom Rock Suite. Just a short walk from the main house is Cliff Lodge, a private two-bedroom suite.
Safari Lodge has 10 rooms made up of Elephant Rooms, River Rooms and two private suites: Tree house and Safari. Built along the banks of a dry riverbed, Safari Lodge guests cross swing bridges between the exquisite tree house style rooms.
WHAT TO DO: There are two daily game drives at Ulusaba, one leaving early in the morning and one leaving late afternoon, each lasting around three hours. Times will vary depending on the season, but guests should always keep their eyes peeled for the Big 5!
From bush games and safari walks to cocktails by the pool, there's no shortage of things to do between exciting game drives. After spotting the Big Five, it’s time to take five and relax with a dip in one of Ulusaba’s outdoor pools or a treatment in the Aroma Boma spa before the adventure begins again. There are endless dining options from a traditional Braai in the heart of the bush to a private meal just for two under the stars, and wine lovers will love to explore our well-stocked cellar. For an out-of-this-world experience we recommend stargazing from the Bush observatory where Rangers share unrivalled knowledge of the constellations that can be seen.
LOCATION & ACCESS: Ulusaba is approximately a 1 hour and 20 minute flight from the international airport in Johannesburg (OR Tambo International) flying by twin-engine aircraft, or 30 minutes from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA). We have our own private airstrip and there are daily scheduled and charter flights available. We’d suggest taking a window seat - the view’s terrific! Guests can also come by road from KMIA, which will take about 2 hours. Try and arrive by 1pm; just in time for lunch.
CHILDREN: We have a dedicated Cub’s Club to keep young explorers busy throughout their stay at Ulusaba. All cubs are welcome at Rock Lodge but cubs must be aged 12 or over to stay at Safari Lodge. On arrival, cubs are given a backpack full of goodies to keep them entertained and educated on all things safari, and cubs aged 6 and over can even participate in the twice-daily game drives. A favourite activity amongst cubs is a supervised treasure hunt involving map reading and the chance to discover facts about the region’s fascinating animal and plant life.
